  • Supporting a great work-life balance in a lifestyle-oriented mountain resort town
  • Having fun
  • High-end residential landscape installations
  • Our new vehicles and equipment
  • Cultivating a tight-knit, high performing team
  • Lots of 3-day weekends during the summer months

  • Creating growth opportunities for staff:
  • transparent organizational structure
  • detailed job descriptions and pay scale for each role
  • annual budget allocated to key staff education and training

This is a full-time (~40hr/week, Monday to Friday) salaried position but is expected to be busier from March through December, and light January and February.

While based in Whistler, we also work in Squamish and Pemberton.

Job overview
This is a new role created to help support our growing design/build service offering. You’ll be our in-house landscape designer to develop plans, renderings and construction documentation to communicate design concepts to our clients and help our field crews and subcontractors to execute installations.

You will work closely with owner, Adam Neilson, who has a degree in Landscape Architecture.

Pika Landscapes is growing, with minimum annual growth of 15% and a seasonal staff of 30+. We’re always investing in new equipment, are based in the mountain resort town of Whistler and have daily opportunities to create and maintain beautiful outdoor spaces.

Generally speaking
Your job is to listen, create, and communicate ideas to clients and Pika installation crews.

Responsibilities may include:
  • Conduct phone and in-person consultations with Adam and/or clients for landscape design and installation purposes
  • Conduct site inventories: existing features like trees and rock, sunlight and drainage conditions etc.
  • Complete project takeoffs and verify elevations when needed
  • Create landscape plans as needed for each project
  • Prepare detailed job packages for installation crews then coordinate closely with Construction manager and Project Foremen on all aspects of the installation of projects you design

And, there’s an opportunity to take on some sales and estimating responsibility over time too. Training will be provided for this depending on experience.

As this is a new role at Pika, it’s expected that you’ll be happy to pitch in wherever the business needs help throughout the year as design work may not always fill a schedule.

You’ll be good at this job if
  • You’re organized and adaptable: schedules and circumstances often change no matter how well we plan, so you roll with it with a smile
  • You’re always thinking about how to do things better and you take the initiative to put those adjustments in motion
  • You’re responsible and dependable
  • You’re self-aware, can take direct feedback and want to grow personally
  • You listen well, follow instructions and ask questions when things aren’t clear
  • You communicate effectively and proactively
  • You’re confident, ambitious, keen to learn but come without an ego
  • You’re accountable and have a mature sense of personal responsibility: you say what you think, make commitments and follow through
  • You’re inclined to smile and be polite even when you don’t feel like it. We want our customers to love you.
  • You sweat the details. We don’t cut corners and quality is critical.

Requirements
  • At least 2 years of landscape installation and 1 year of landscape design experience
  • Degree or diploma in Landscape Architecture or Landscape Design
  • Strong understanding of landscape construction methods and installation techniques both for hard and soft scape elements

  • A working visa or permanent residency

Compensation and benefits
